NORTH DOWNS RUN - 24 June 2012

This years North Downs Run is going to be held on Sunday 24 June 2012.  Our North Downs Run Page is now up and running.  So click here to find out the latest information and enter the race.

On Saturday the South of England Cross Country Championships were held at Stanmer Park in Brighton. One of the biggest cross country events in the year, 335 ladies and 745 men took part in the regional race. Two of the club’s ladies, Jackie King and Claire Ward, made the journey down to the coast to race over the relatively firm parkland course in the shadow of Brighton and Hove Albion’s new football stadium.

The ever popular Canterbury 10 attracted 17 Istead and Ifield members on Sunday, and there were many excellent performances from the Club. The weather turned out fine after looking extremely unpromising on the drive down to East Kent. Only a light shower half way through the race spoiled what were pleasant cool wind-free conditions on the undulating race through the Kent countryside.

First home, and back to top form was David Abery who ran a personal best to finish in 23rd overall in a strong field and 2nd in his age category. David’s age-graded score of 84.22 was more than 10 higher than any other Istead runner. David was followed home by Simon Parrin while Barbara Ockenden led home our ladies in a personal best time for the distance. PBs were also achieved by Daryl Lucas and Sandra Barbuti.
